Art Jewelry

Tacoma Art Museum has a fine collection
of studio art jewelry.
This is a beautiful piece, but what really grabbed
my attention was the interplay
of light and shadow behind the piece.

Lenticular Clouds

Mt. Rainier with a lenticular cloud cap --
not an infrequent occurence. But it's rare to see
a stack of similar clouds next to the peak.

This is taken from a window at Tacoma Art Museum.
The building with the red stripe is the Museum of Glass.

Yes We Can-Can

A special treat during the history presentation
at Tacoma Art Museum yesterday
was a can-can dancer,

one of the original can-can girls from
Tacoma's Gay Nineties restaurant.

The guest was Miss Tacoma in the 1950s.

She's still quite a fetching figure

and more than willing to engage the audience.

(ever had Nalley's chili?) and Roman Meal.

Her presentation included historic photographs.

I've been neglectful.
Haven't posted for a while,
at least on this particular photo blog.

So let me catch you up

Behind the Scenes Tour of Tacoma Art Museum

This is Margaret Bullock,
a curator at the Tacoma Art Museum.

Margaret was explaining how the registrar at the museum
catalogs art coming into the collection and
handles materials on loan.
She also showed us the specialized packing required
for shipping fine art.

The Elks Lodge

This gingerbread beauty
is far more spiffed up
than its bricks and mortar counterpart.

The real building is deteriorating
each and every day.

On display at Tacoma Art Museum.

Courtyard at Tacoma Art Museum

There's an interior courtyard
in the Antoine Predock-designed Tacoma Art Museum.

Here's the entrance plaza
for the Tacoma Art Museum.

A design has been chosen to enliven the space.
Someday I'll show you the transformation.
