Lenticular Clouds

Mt. Rainier with a lenticular cloud cap --
not an infrequent occurence. But it's rare to see
a stack of similar clouds next to the peak.

This is taken from a window at Tacoma Art Museum.
The building with the red stripe is the Museum of Glass.

Plate Shape on Live Feed

Did I ever mention that the Museum of Glass
has a live feed
showing what's happening in the hot shop?

We were in the gallery watching this take shape,
but you could have joined us from home.
Richard Craig Meitner has been the artist in residence this week.

Hot stuff!

Chihuly Glass

Did I mention that Chihuly's works
are well represented in Tacoma?

Something New & Different

I always see something new and different

More Glass

I probably bore you
with my passion for colorful art glass,

but when Tacoma has Chihuly glass in abundance,
I can't help myself.

Lunch at the Museum

The food is marvelous
at the café at the Museum of Glass.
It's prepared by my favorite catering outfit,
Gallucci's.

I had a Greek salad that was extraordinary.
And notice the tablecloths and flowers on all the tables.

Hot shop.
Exhibits.
Café.

A trifecta.

Another Chihuly Bit

I never get tired of Dale Chihuly's work.

And since we have it abundance locally,
I love to share it.

Hope you don't mind.

Chihuly Glass in Reds, Greens and Pinks

Here's some world-class glass

by that glass master Dale Chihuly.

Kind of modern Christmas-y colors,
don't you think?

And now, in the daytime

I gave you a glimpse of this sculpture not long ago.
It was taken in the blue dusk.

Here's a view in the daylight.

Late Autumn Dusk

Dusk comes early these days.

Sometimes it paints the sky and water
a dusky shade of blue.

So What Else is New?

The sky is heavy with gray clouds,
thinking about raining on our weekend parade
as they ride east to dump snow in the Cascades.

The nearby Crystal Mountain ski area
has gotten 75 inches of new snow in the last week.
Yes, over six feet.
But that pales in comparison to Whistler's 205 inches.

Skiers and boarders are packing their cars and jumping for joy.

But if you're into more gentle pursuits,
today's a good day to visit
Museum of Glass.

A favorite destination

And a good place to visit when the weather's cold.

Sweet Days of Summer

Now that we've entered the long, gray rainy season

those long, sweet sunny evenings of summer
are just an extravagant memory.

Gone, but not forgotten.

Glass at Tacoma Art Museum

The Tacoma Art Museum
owns more glass by Dale Chihuly
that does its sister museum, The Museum of Glass.

Surprised?

Tacoma Art Museum focuses on the story of Pacific Northwest art,
including glass. The Museum of Glass has an international sweep.

You can finding resource material about Chihuly's glass
both in the cafe at Tacoma Art Museum and in its library.
You'll also find Chihuly glass displayed year-round at the art museum.

Both museums changed schedules around Labor Day,
being closed on both Mondays and Tuesdays
but having longer hours at other times.

Check the schedule before you make the trip.

Another View of the Glass Museum

I can't help it.
It's so photogenic.

I just love finding new angles to shoot.
