A special treat during the history presentation

at Tacoma Art Museum yesterday

was a can-can dancer,

one of the original can-can girls from

Tacoma's Gay Nineties restaurant.

The guest was Miss Tacoma in the 1950s.

She's still quite a fetching figure

and more than willing to engage the audience.

To accompany the "Mighty Tacoma" exhibition

author Darlyne Reiter lectured on the history of

the South Tacoma Area, including the Nalley Company

(ever had Nalley's chili?) and Roman Meal.

Her presentation included historic photographs.

This gingerbread beauty

is far more spiffed up

than its bricks and mortar counterpart.

The real building is deteriorating

each and every day.

Across the Tracks

The railroad is an integral part
of Tacoma's history.

if the Northern Pacific Railroad had made Seattle its terminus
back in 1873.
