Korean Bride Mask

As I was wandering in downtown Tacoma
a couple of days ago,
I stumbled onto this piece of public art
on Broadway near American Art Company.
I'd never noticed it before.

The bronze marker adjacent to the piece says:

Ha Hway (Bride) Mask
Korean   Korea

The bride dancer, symbolizing a new generation
and life style, usually dances with an old man --
representing old values and ways.

Oh! Young bride!
Dancing new life --
Tomorrow!
She is dancing
with the shadow
of the old man
of the past.

  (then the initials:  CA)

Chihuly Mosaic

I thought you might enjoy a mosaic
that features closeups of a glass installation
designed by the master Dale Chihuly,
who has Tacoma roots.

The original pieces are featured on the Bridge of Glass
at Tacoma's Museum of Glass.

Anti-Depressant

As far as I'm concerned

blue skies and flowering trees
are a natural anti-depressant
with only the best kinds of side effects.

The Bluest Skies

There was an old song that went,
"The bluest skies you've ever seen are in Seattle."

The same goes for Tacoma, and Federal Way,
and Edmonds, and Everett.

North of Tacoma

It's about an hour's drive from Tacoma,
but there's a fun Children's Museum in Everett.

It's on Wall Street, west of Colby Avenue.
Right across from the Monte Cristo building.

High Pressure/Gorgeous Sunsets

There's been a high pressure system
off the Washington coast,
bringing milder temperatures
and blue skies.

Makes Olympic ski runs
a little softer than usual,
but gives us great sunsets.

Rock n Row

Auction item at Rock 'n' Row,
the annual fundraiser for
Commencement Bay Rowing Club.

The club has programs for adolescents, adults,
and physically challenged people. It is working closely
with nearby military bases to provide rowing experiences
for wounded warriors.

The boathouse is located at Harry Todd Park
on American Lake.

There are programs year-round
and the spring season will start soon.

Lunch at the Museum

The food is marvelous
at the café at the Museum of Glass.
It's prepared by my favorite catering outfit,
Gallucci's.

I had a Greek salad that was extraordinary.
And notice the tablecloths and flowers on all the tables.

Hot shop.
Exhibits.
Café.

A trifecta.

Raindrops and Cattails

It's wet today.

I tried to get a photo of the ducks
that recently arrived at the pond,
but they were having none of that.

So have raindrops
and cattails instead.

I guess I should say "old Narrows Bridge"
when I refer to it, since there's a parallel bridge
for traffic coming into Tacoma from Key Peninsula.
